Conor McGregor is the new undisputed UFC Featherweight Champion of the World
The Crumlin native KO'd Jose Aldo in a matter of seconds.
It took Conor McGregor a mere 13 seconds to end Jose Aldo's 10 year undefeated reign. Not even the most ardent Conor McGregor supporters could anticipate that he would knock out Aldo with a single punch.
Having entered UFC in 2013, McGregor has now won 7 consecutive fights and remains undefeated within the organisation. The match up, which was the most lucrative in the history of MMA was due to take place in July, however Aldo pulled out citing a rib injury just days before the event. Instead, he took on Chad Mendes, whom he defeated in the second round winning the Interim title. McGregor's emphatic TKO set up a title fight between the two biggest superstars of the sport. Months of waiting were ended in a flash, leaving Aldo in tears.
Having conquered Las Vegas, McGregor looks set to fight in Croke Park in front of 80,000 adoring fans. The only question is whether he'll take on Jose Aldo, who immediately demanded a rematch or Frankie Edgar, who is the best fighter in the featherweight division outside of McGregor and Aldo.
After the Croke Park bout, McGregor plans to move from Featherweight to Lightweight and has already set his sights on Lightweight Champion Rafael Dos Anjos.
We have always known that Conor McGregor talks the talk, but after tonight's stunning display, we now know for once and all that he walks the walk too.
A left hand that will go down in legend, may the party continue tonight through the weekend in Vegas and back in Dublin!
