Dermot Kennedy announces North American leg of The Weight of the Woods Tour

Dermot Kennedy has announced a North American leg of The Weight of the Woods Tour.

"The Weight of the Woods North American tour!!!," wrote Kennedy. "I was having a conversation with somebody the other day about my touring, particularly in the US. And they were kinda saying ‘you've never had a huge radio hit in America, and you're not really famous over there, how do you play these venues?’, and I didn't have a decent response...

"But having thought about it now, I feel so lucky for the way my touring has played out in America. It feels like a secret, right until I get inside these venues and can't believe the size of them. So here I am again, announcing a tour that I'm stunned by, trusting in whatever it is that we've built.

"Free from radio play or the pursuit of viral moments. We know that something powerful happens when we all get together, and that's precious. And trust me, this album and this music is going to make it the most beautiful tour yet."

The tour is in support of Kennedy's upcoming album The Weight of the Woods, which is set to be released on April 3.

On March 21, Kennedy unveiled the record at a special event at Beyond the Trees Avondale in Coillte's Avondale Forest Park, Co. Wicklow. There, fans listened to the album in full for the first time.

The event also included a surprise live performance from Kennedy, accompanied by the Maynooth University Chamber Choir, which featured in the video released last month for ‘Refuge’ live from Glenmaroon, Dublin.

The performance took place on the 38-meter-high Viewing Tower against the backdrop of the Avondale forest.

Ahead of his North American tour, Kennedy will head out on his biggest UK and European tour to date, which will end with two shows in Ireland at Dublin's Aviva Stadium on July 11 and 12.
