Conor McGregor confirms Sinead O'Connor will sing live at UFC 189
The Notorious will arrive to the octagon to a live rendition of 'Foggy Dew'
While it had been rumoured for a little bit, Conor McGregor has now confirmed that Sinead O'Connor will perform live as he heads to the octagon at UFC 189 on Saturday night.
What was meant to be a World Featherweight Championship shot against Jose Aldo is now a battle for the interim belt against No. 1 ranked Chad Mendes, but The Notorious is still pulling out the stops for his ring walk.
He's entered the arena to the strains of O'Connor's rendition of 'Foggy Dew' for many years, so this represents something special. "I've been coming out to Sinead for a long time," McGregor said. "To have her sing live, it's gonna be historic."
Indeed, it's a mutual thing; last year, Sinead told our own Stuart Clark about how much McGregor using her song as his entrance music meant. “I was actually quite touched by that," she said. It doesn’t happen very often that a man finds his physical strength from the vibe of a woman. Because strength is what I hope to give. He seems like a really interesting guy.”
Stock up on your caffeinated drinks and energy gels if you fancy catching it live though - first bell in Las Vegas isn't expected until around 5am Sunday morning.
