The death has occurred in Dublin of Brian Molloy, for many years one of the leading lights of the local music industry. He had fought a long and difficult battle with cancer.
Brian began his career in management and handled the affairs of The Cotton Mill Boys, among other showbands. He set up the Hawk label, which released 85 albums, numerous No.1s among them and engaged in many co-production arrangements with RTE for albums by various acts including Don Baker. More recently, he formed Lunar Records, through which he released albums by Paddy Reilly and The Dubliners, and scored a huge hit with Faith Of Our Fathers, a record that sold quarter of a million copies and spawned a successful live show.
Brian was a founder director of Radio Ireland, which became Today FM, and he was among the investors to benefit from the buy-out by Scottish Radio Holdings. More recently, he was Chairman of the Phantom FM group that was awarded the Dublin Alternative Rock licence by the BCI.
Brian was also a shareholder in Westland Studios and served on the board of the PPI for many years. He was an excellent golfer, a regular in music industry tournaments. Brian's son Graham is also involved in the music industry, ensuring that the Molloy tradition in the Irish business will continue.
Hot Press wishes to pass on its condolences to all the family.
