Hot Press has been given an exclusive walk through of Tripod, a three-floor venue that opens in September on the site of the old Dublin Red Box.
There are three elements to John Reynolds’ latest venture – a 1,350-capacity live room with balcony seating for 200; a 300-capacity club; and a 300-capacity bar.
They’re all being kitted out with a state-of-the-art Funktion One sound system, and lighting by Just Light Productions. The man responsible for the overall look is United Designers’ Keith Hobbs whose client list includes The Clarence Hotel, Ministry Of Sound, Met Bar and Nobu.
Two-and-a-half-years in the planning, Tripod boasts a perfect line of site from every point in the venue including – most importantly! – the bars.
“Everything is geared towards giving the artist and the audience the best experience possible,” proffers Reynolds. “It’s so competitive out there at the moment that if you get one thing wrong, people are going to go elsewhere.”
It’ll certainly be interesting to see how Tripod fares up against the similarly sized Olympia and Ambassador theatres, which are both owned by the rival MCD organisation.
While the line-up for September 18’s gala opening remains under wraps, tickets for The Cult (September 29) and Level 42 (October 4) are already on sale.
