Bloomsday resurrection for The Radiators
With plans to record new material and a Village date set for June 16, The Radiators have announced their second coming
Bloomsday this year promises to be extra special with the legendary Radiators doing the resurrection shuffle at the Dublin Village.
The June 16 knees-up finds founder members Phillip Chevron, Pete Holidai and Steve Rapid joined on stage by former Pogues backing-singer Cait O'Riordan and Johnnie Bonnie.
"It's a new beginning rather than three blokes reliving their punk past, which is why we're calling ourselves The Radiators Plan 9," says Rapid who stresses that they're in it for the long haul. "We're planning on writing new material and have more gigs in the pipeline which we'll be announcing soon. We're going to take it one step at a time and see what happens."
Formed as a Dublin response to the '76 UK punk uprising, the then Radiators From Space made an immediate impact with their TV Tube Hearts debut. Dropping the "From Space" part of their name shortly after, the band went on to produce the legendary Ghostown which, despite modest sales, regularly features in 'Best Irish Albums Of All Time' lists.
Following their disbanding in the early '80s, Phil Chevron went on to form The Pogues, Pete Holidai became an in demand producer and Steve Rapid reverted to Steve Averill and took care of design duties for U2.
