Before I’m Thirty
Speranza: “Before I’m Thirty” (Starch)
The Saw Doctors: “Small Bit Of Love” (Shamtown Records)
Speranza: “Before I’m Thirty” (Starch)
These records are both distinctly and distinctively Irish. As the men from Tuam praise love and the sustenance it brings Speranza fear for their masculine souls declaring: “I don’t wanna end up with ten kids and a wife before I’m thirty.” Both are understandable sentiments and while the music behind neither song is groundbreaking they are both tuneful, pleasant and highly radio playable. Interesting that where the Saw Doctors used to be footloose and fancy free (‘I Used To Love Her’) they now salute emotional stability. Perhaps when Speranza age a bit they’ll get over their masculine fear of commitment (they should still run screaming from the idea of ten kids) and talk of the joys of the registry office!
