Shabazz Palaces announces new album

Ishmael Butler has announced his return as Shabazz Palaces with his new album It’s a Style Sport, out Friday, October 23.

The ten-track record will be the musician's eight studio album, the first single 'Ahh World (I Won The Alpha Bet)' was released today.

The album will feature guest appearances from Marquette Miller, Thaddeus "Thaddillac" Turner, Evan Flory-Barnes, Gerald "Tugboat" Turner, Kassa Overall and Carlos Overall.

A fond collaborator, the rapper and producer has paired with Flyin Lotus, Thundercat, George Clinton, Clipping, Battles, Oneohtrix Point Never, Animal Collective, and his own son, Lil Tracy, in the past.

He has toured with the likes of Radiohead, TV on the Radio, and Ms Lauryn Hill.

Butler previously made music with the multi-instrumentalist Tendai "Baba" Maraire, who left the group in 2020. He was also part of Digable Planets, an alternative hip-hop trio formed in the '90s. The Seattle born rapper used to go by the nickname of "Butterfly" during this time.

Lives dates in support of the album are yet to be announced.
