To mark the release of The Beatles' newest Anthology, out now, Hot Press Classics returns today with its new installment on their' 1967 psychedelic classic, Magical Mystery Tour.
Joined by Riccardo Dwyer, Paul Nolan examines how productive 1967 was for The Beatles, the creativity behind the concept of the record and accompanying film and the band's incomparable legacy.
The duo also talk about The Beatles' influence on Nirvana and Oasis, as well as the Britpop movement in general, the band's search for the spiritual at the time, and the absolute universality of their time, despite its strong experimental tendencies.
Elsewhere they discuss the members' solo outputs, especially following the band's breakup, the upcoming Beatles biopics, and the psychedelic production on Magical Mystery Tour.
To wrap up the episode, Nolan brings back an interview with Pulitzer-winning poet Paul Muldoon where he discusses working with Paul McCartney the book The Lyrics: 1956 to the Present.
