Azealia Banks lands role in RZA rap film
Common, Jill Scott and Lorraine Toussaint also feature in Clan-man's Coco
Details were kept under wraps impressively, but shooting on the RZA-directed Coco has begun in New York, with Azealia Banks assuming the lead role.
Playing a wannabe rapper transfixed by a college poetry course, the former Hot Press cover star is keeping good company on her acting debut; Common, Jill Scott and Lorraine Toussaint are among the cast members for the film directed by the Wu Tang Clan mastermind.
"I'm extremely excited and vigorously inspired to be working with Azealia Banks in my new directorial installment," RZA said in a statement. "Producer Paul Hall and I have assembled a cool and eclectic cast to surround Azealia. Our story, which is set in today's contemporary youth culture, will bring a new voice to cinema that needs to be heard."
Meanwhile, the musical exploits of Ms Banks are not to be overshadowed, and today she premiered the video for new single 'Ice Princess'; check it out below.
