African film festival comes to Ireland
AIB present a film event which explores multiculturalism in a big way.
Ireland is to host its first ever Nollywood & African Film Festival from April 21 - 23 at the UCG Cinema, Dublin. An international event, the festival showcases African heritage and culture in cinema, and the Dublin stop will specifically underline the growing cultural links between Ireland and Africa.
The Nigerian movie industry, which has affectionately been titled 'Nollywood' after its Indian and American counterparts, has been increasingly successful in the last 10 years and this year's expansion into Ireland will add to its growing fame.
A total of eight films will be shown over the three-day film festival in UCI cinemas which are: Across the Niger, Prince Losseno, Widow, The Return, Madam Dearest, Osofia Goes To London, Amazing Grace, Pariah and In The Name Of Tradition.
Following the event, Ireland will continue to screen African-based movies in various cinemas at least twice a month.
