Adele outsells Taylor Swift 2 to 1 in the US
The UK powerhouse tops the 2015 bestsellers list by a ludicrous margin
Adele's latest LP 25, has been announced as the No. 1 on the 2015 list of the most popular albums sold in America.
Despite only being released in late November, the North London singer outsold her rivals by a margin verging on the comical; data company Nielsen Music, who are responsible for measuring sales, report that the singer's third LP sold some 8 million units. By way of contrast, the formidable Taylor Swift claimed second spot, but her 1989 only shifted a comparatively paltry 3.1 million.
Upon the release of 25, Adele broke the long-standing first week sales record, previously held by Oasis' 1997 album, Be Here Now, selling more than 800,000 copies in the UK. Nielsen music also named '25', the second best selling record by a woman in a calendar year, just behind Britney Spears' album Oops!...I Did It Again, released in 2000.
It was also a good year for hip-hop in Canada. For a long time the less-successful neighbours to their colleagues south of the border, rappers The Weekend and Drake claimed berths within the top 10 at number 5 and 6 respectively - with New Jersey rapper Fetty Wap having to console himself with the number 10 spot.
Other artists that make the top 10 list include, Justin Bieber, Sam Smith, and everyone's favourite redhead, Ed Sheeran.
