3Music Store hits 1m track mark
Music fans are now spoilt for choice with today's announcement that the mobile network 3 has now over 1 million tracks available for download from their online mobile music store.
Launched in October 2006, the network has an significant effect on music sales in Ireland. Within three months the network accounted for 13% of all Irish single sales, which was equal to the sales of all high street retailers combined.
Now six months after the launch of 3MusicStore, their track list has risen by 100%, with an increase in back catalogue tracks as well as new releases.
Its popularity in Ireland, bolstered by exclusive content such as Tom Dunne's The Hive content which has featured The Magic Numbers, Director and The Blizzards, reflects the European trend. In Sweden, the network has out-sold iTunes several times over, and in the UK ito broadcasted the country's first ever live performance streamed to mobile.
According to Graeme Slattery Head of Music at 3, this is all a sign of things to come: "We will contiune to build up even more great offerings for our customers and shake up what seems to be a staid market".
