Netflix releases teaser trailer for The Decameron starring Saoirse Monica-Jackson
The series will be available to stream on July 25.
Netflix has set July 25 for the premiere of The Decameron, a period drama loosely inspired by the 14-century story collection The Decameron, as well as releasing a short teaser for the show.
The eight episode series was created by Teenage Bounty Hunter’s Kathleen Jordan and Orange is the New Black creator Jenji Kohan.
Derry-born Saoirse Monica-Jackson stars as the codependent servant Misia in the dark comedy. The Northern Irish actor is best known for her portrayal of Erin Quinn in Derry Girls, and will also be featuring in the upcoming BBC Drama series The City is Ours.
Set in the year 1348, the story follows a handful of nobles retreat with their servants to a grand villa to wait out the Black Death plague on a holiday, but as social rules wear thin, a scramble for survival ensues.
The series also stars Tony Hale, known for his roles in Veep and Arrested Development, and Zosia Mamet, known for her performances in Girls and The Flight Attendant.
Netflix describes the show as “a wine-soaked sex romp set in the Italian countryside” and “a soapy dark comedy that examines the all-too-timely theme of class struggles in the season of a pandemic.”
The cast additionally includes Amar Chadha-Patel, Leila Farzad, Lou Gala, Karan Gill, Douggie McMeekin, Jessica Plummer and Tanya Reynolds.
