“My head tells me I shouldn’t be here, yet my heart says yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah” goes the not-so-original refrain, yet David Gedge’s affectionate way of telling it coupled with a lighter sound and more musical variation than hitherto within this classic three minute pop song format make the current release from The Wedding Present a very attractive proposition. As usual there’s also an avalanche of lyrics but the essential naiveté necessary to carry the tune towards the sublime is still convincing after all these years.
