Bands like Chicks On Speed aren’t supposed to make records like ‘We Don’t Play Guitars’. In theory, they should be nothing more than a transparent yet unlistenable piss take of the whole music industry thing. In practice they certainly favour the enthusiasm over talent approach but this is more than just a rollicking experience. “We like to use gaffer tape”, they shout over a pulsing electro backing, “but we don’t play guitars”. Add a credibility-enhancing rap and guitar solo from Peaches and you have a record that suggests a shockingly inappropriate long-term future.
