Vodka And Solpadeine
Maguire is attempting to launch a new genre he calls alt. country ’n’ Irish and he almost succeeds with this piece of country-rock hokum. Think the Rolling Stones ‘Dead Flowers’ without the underlying menace and you’re nearly there. What rescues this from novelty status is Maguire’s mock sincere vocals and deft lyrical skills, eg: “Natasha’s keen, her sheets are clean, she’s got vodka, I got Solpadeine”.
