‘Unrequited Love Song’ slots neatly into the genre of vitriol that has become known as Riot Grrrl. It’s wild and manic, a (fe)maelstrom (ouch!) of predictable Punk revivalism that is none the less alluring because of its desire to consciously demolish both a form of playing and style of thinking. It’s not so much about unrequited love as about songs about unrequited love. That’s the point. Meta-pop is the term, I think.
