New York-based Irish artist Catherine Owens will be getting her posh frock out on August 31 as her clip for U2’s ‘Original Of The Species’ battles it out for Best Special Effects In A Video and Best Editing In A Video at the MTV Music Awards in New York.
A long-time friend of the band, Owens has been the creative director of screen visuals on U2’s last three tours.
“One of the concepts of the video was for Bono to enter and exist in the woman’s private, digital world for a brief moment in time,” she says of her 3D creation. “When we saw an early model of her character, the images were absolutely haunting. (NY FX company) Spontaneous did amazing work to fulfill the band’s vision, which was to deliver an intimate and emotional experience. U2 consider it a dazzling work of future animation.”
She’s not wrong! In other band news, U2 By U2 – In Their Own Words finally hits the bookshelves on September, Originally slated for publication last year, the 350-page HarperCollins tome features 1500 images and is edited by long-time pal and former Hotpress-er Neil McCormick.
