Turnstile issue statement in the wake of their triumph at the Grammys
During the ceremony, multiple artists, including Kehlani, Bad Bunny, Billie Eilish, and Olivia Dean, used their speeches to mention the current situation in the US.
Following their successful night at the Grammys, Turnstile have issued a statement on ICE, which also references the conflicts in Palestine, Sudan and Iran.
Contrary to many artists who were overtly political and took their speeches as an opportunity to criticise ICE, the band made no mention of the situation in their native US.
However, the group has recently taken to Instagram, releasing a statement which references the current global political climate, alongside a video of lead vocalist Brendan Yates' award acceptance speech.
"This band has never been about the individual, but rather about a collective searching for a common thread in a world where those threads are being hidden from us," wrote Turnstile.
"The world likes to tell us who we are and what we're not, but the truth is we belong to nothing, and we belong to everyone.
"We're existing in a time of heightened state violence. We are watching people be pushed out of their homes here in America, in Palestine, in Sudan, in Iran, everywhere, as if they don't belong to them. As if we don't belong to each other.
"Music is a vehicle for voices that are buried, that are searching, that are alien. Turnstile has always existed as an alien thing."
Turnstile's statement came after the band's ex-guitarist Brady Ebert criticised the group in a now-deleted Instagram comment.
"No one in Turnstile cares at all about ethics or social issues in general, they're just pandering to their audience."
The band is yet to respond to Ebert's comment.
The Baltimore band, which was formed in 2010, had been nominated for five Grammys. Turnstile won two of the Grammys, receiving the award for "Best Rock Album", thanks to Never Enough, and for "Best Metal Performance" for ‘Birds’.
Never Enough was the first record the band released after Brady Ebert left the group in 2022.
