Together For Palestine announce final lineup featuring Ruth Negga, Paul Weller, Florence Pugh and more
The sold-out show will also feature appearances from the likes of Benedict Cumberbatch, Jameela Jamil, PinkPantheress, Damon Albarn and more.
Brian Eno's Together For Palestine fundraising concert has announced details for a livestream today and shared its final lineup.
While the in-person show at Wembley Stadium is sold out, it will be livestreamed on YouTube at 7:00 p.m. today.
Together For Palestine will consist of musical performances, speeches and art, interspersed with segments showcasing doctors, journalists, aid workers and other people working in Gaza.
Among the new additions to the lineup are Irish media personality Laura Whitmore and actress Ruth Negga, along with major acting names such as Florence Pugh and Khalid Abdalla.
"It will always be important to stand together for people in suffering, for children starving, for humans that are powerless," said Pugh on social media.
"Grateful for this event tomorrow evening, raising money for all of those in desperate need in Gaza. Watching what has happened to Palestinians has hurt my heart beyond belief and am comforted knowing love is coming together tomorrow, through audiences, through you, artists and speakers to raise what we all can."
Newly announced musical acts include Paul Weller, Lana Lubany, Sama' Abdulhadi and Neneh Cherry.
"All of us across the world have a collective responsibility to do what we can to stop the bombs and bullets," said Cherry ahead of the gig.
"As artists, I believe our music can cut through the silence of complicity. Together For Palestine is about turning sound into solidarity – our way of saying compassion matters, and every child deserves to grow up in peace and possibility."
Also added to the lineup are UN Special Rapporteur on the Occupied Palestinian Territories Francesca Albanese, French former footballer Eric Cantona, British broadcaster Mehdi Hasan, activist and model Munroe Bergdorf, Palestinian painter Malak Mattar, photographer Misan Harriman and internet creator Zainab Jiwa.
Comedian Guz Khan is set to be one of the event's hosts. He said in a statement that "silence isn’t an option" and "that's why this concert matters."
"When I got the call asking me to host, it was a no-brainer," said Khan, adding, "This is about using my platform to back justice, and reminding people that standing up for humanity is everyone's job."
Previously announced names on the lineup include celebrities Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock), Jameela Jamil (The Good Place), Louis Theroux (When Louis Met...) and Amelia Dimoldenberg (Chicken Shop Date). Also present will be Holocaust survivor Stephen Kapos as well as Dr. Ghassan Abu-Sittah and Dr. Victoria Rose, who worked as surgeons in Gaza.
There will be performances from musicians such as PinkPantheress, Portishead, Damon Albarn, Bastille, James Blake, Celeste, Hot Chip, Rina Sawayama, Leigh-Anne, Saint Levant, Jamie xx and more.
"Everyone has a lever, mine is a stage," said Palestinian DJ Abdulhadi, who is set to perform back-to-back with Jamie xx.
"I'll use it at Wembley to amplify Palestinian voices and make space to grieve, unite, and recharge, for a free Palestine."
Together For Palestine is the UK's largest ever fundraising concert for Gaza. All proceeds will distributed to Palestinian aid organisations such as the Palestine Children's Relief Fund, Palestine Medical Relief Society and Taawon.
"In the face of the horrors of Gaza, silence becomes complicity," said Eno when he first announced the gig last month.
"Artists have always helped societies to point out injustice and imagine better futures. That's why this concert matters. It's time for us to come together – not just to raise our voices, but to reaffirm our shared humanity."
The news follows yesterday's report from a UN commission which said Israel is committing genocide against Palestinians in Gaza. It marked the first time such an allegation had been made publicly by a UN body.
On August 25, a double-tap strike on Nasser Hospital in southern Gaza killed 20 people, including five journalists and four medical workers. It came only two weeks after an Israeli stike killed a team of Al Jazeera reporters at a journalists' tent by Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City.
The livestream is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 17, viewable on YouTube.
