The Secret Of Kells wins animation award
The Disney film based on The Book Of Kells wins the audience choice for best feature film
The Secret Of Kells, directed by Kilkenny man Tomm Moore, has won the audience award for best feature film at the Annecy Animation festival in France over the weekend.
The film was up against Coraline and Mary And Max, which shared the Jury prize for best feature, but the audience of over 120,000 voted in favour of Moore's animation set in 9th Century Ireland.
Hot Press' very own Tara Brady said that The Secret Of Kells "is a beautiful, unique project that deserves to find an audience beyond mandatory school trips to the cinema."
And not to let Tomm Moore be the only Cat to win an award, David O'Reilly, who is also from Kilkenny received the Special Distinction Award for his film Please Say Something, a film which won him a Golden Bear at the Berlin festival earlier this year.
The Secret Of Kells will be released on DVD in Ireland on August 7 through Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, Ireland.
