The Workman's Club pays tribute to Trevor Dietz: "It’s hard to put into words the impact that Trev has had on the Irish music industry"
"Trev’s impact and dedication to promoting new and upcoming bands in Ireland is hard to overstate," the venue said. "For decades he has been a champion of alternative music… music with heart, music with meaning, music with integrity, music with a true story to tell, music with a message that moves people and makes a difference in the world."
The Workman’s Club has shared a tribute to Trevor Dietz, who died on Sunday, June 7.
Trevor was one of the founding members of Workman's and the manager of Fontaines DC.
In a statement on the venue's Instagram page the club said that they are “absolutely heartbroken about the passing of Trevor Dietz, one of the founding members of The Workman's Club”.
“For 15 years our friend Trev has been at the forefront of the clubs and gigs that have been the heartbeat of our little corner of the world,” the statement continues.
“It’s hard to put into words the impact that Trev has had on the Irish music industry. He had been promoting gigs and clubs for over 25 years and in that time he’s created some of the most iconic clubnights and worked with some of the biggest bands the country has produced.”
“As the band’s manager he had an integral part in the rise and global success of Fontaines DC. His gigs and clubs at the Workman's have for a decade and a half been at the cutting edge of new breakthrough acts while always paying a deep homage to the music of years gone by.
“Trev’s impact and dedication to promoting new and upcoming bands in Ireland is hard to overstate. For decades he has been a champion of alternative music… music with heart, music with meaning, music with integrity, music with a true story to tell, music with a message that moves people and makes a difference in the world. “That’s what Trev’s life was about.
“Thank you for everything you’ve given us Trev, we love you, we will miss you dearly.”
Trevor spotted Fontaines DC at a very early stage and helped guide them to international success, making sure throughout that they had the artistic space and time to grow.
Outside of his involvement with Fontaines, Trevor had a significant impact on live music and nightlife in Dublin through his work at venues like The Workman's Club – from Somewhere? Wednesdays, to his well-known Bank Holiday Sunday events showcasing emerging acts.
A massive football fan – Hot Press spotted him on the terraces at the Ireland vs. Czechia play-off – Trevor was part of the Bohemian FC Another Sunny Afternoon bill, which last year helped warm Oasis fans up for Croke Park. He was also a vocal supporter of Palestine.
