The Wrens: “The Low 7 Inch” (Dow Boy Records)
Scratchy, dirty, delightful scrunge and scrounge music from The Wrens – the kings of all disaffected birds and sad individuals who find themselves more unjustifiably prayed upon and sinned against than your average evil bollix. ‘Ruth’ and ‘Learned in Space’ in particular display a healthy obsession with all things surreal and sex-ridden and suggest a myriad number of ways in which the pried upon can unhinge their tormentors and nurture a beautifully opaque sensibility in revenge.
