The Lego Movie Sequel gets a director
Will everything still be awesome the second time around?
Despite being snubbed for an Academy Award nomination, The Lego Movie is powering ahead with plans for a sequel, and a director has been named. Director Rob Schrab will mark his feature directorial debut overseeing construction on the practically named The Lego Movie Sequel.
Though his first film, his comedy credentials are strong, having directed episodes of TV’s Community, The Mindy Project, Parks And Recreation, The Sarah Silverman Program. He previously earned a 2007 Annie Award nomination for Best Writing in an Animated Feature Production, for the Oscar-nominated comedy Monster House. In addition, he won a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics, and received an additional nomination for Outstanding Writing for a Variety, Music or Comedy Special for his work on the 81st Annual Academy Awards.
But you’ll have to sit through two other Lego-related films before the direct sequel arrives in 2018. A spin-off movie starring Lego’s ninja figurines, Ninjago, is slated for a 2016 release, while another spin-off movie about the Batman character from The Lego Movie will hit theatres the following year in 2017.
