A mainstay of The Purty Kitchen during the late eighties and early nineties, the band is back for a special fundraising show on Friday 11 December.
Reformed after 16 years for special events, The Galloping Hogans will be playing a Christmas Party live performance on December 11 from 8pm to 2.30am at Purty Loft in Dun Laoghaire. Support will be Preacher’s Son, Wild Cherry Tonic & DJ ‘The Fed’.
Tickets are priced €12 in advance from The Purty Kitchen (phone: 01 2843576) and €14 at the door and from Tickets.ie and City Discs in Temple Bar.
The band will perform live to help raise much needed funds for AWARE, the national organization working to help defeat depression and prevent suicide, as well as providing support to individuals, family members/friends affected by the condition.
Bass and drums are provided by brothers Brian and Lance Hogan, who both have continuing careers in music with pioneering Irish band Kila. Brian Hogan’s solo project, Preacher’s Son, is gaining momentum at a rock and roll grassroots level, and you can check them out as they play support on this special night.
Lance Hogan continues to produce bands and soundtracks and has just launched his new website (www.lancehogan.com), which outlines the variety of projects he has worked on over the last few years, including working with U2, Neil Jordan, The Blizzards and Republic of Loose.

Original Galloping Hogan members include Shea Fitzgerald on acoustic guitar, Con O’Laoghaire on percussion and Diarmuid Ryan on electric guitar. A veteran player with the band, Steve Belton also plays guitar for this special Christmas Party, and people will remember him from The Fountainhead, Hazel O'Connor or Cry Before Dawn. Shea Fitzgerald composes for TV and film and works as a producer, and his credits include Kila and Paul Brady. Con O’Laoghaire also continues to compose music and is currently working on soundtracks. Record maker, producer, songwriter and musician Kieran Kennedy of Black Velvet Band Fame will also play electric guitar.
On lead vocals and guitar will be singer/songwriter Hank Wedel, who is from New York City but is now living in Cork. He is enjoying success at the moment with legend Christy Moore performing and naming his current album after the title track ‘Listen’, which Hank composed following a trip to Sweden.
