The Doors To Celebrate Their 50th Anniversary In Style
It’s hard to believe, but it’ll be 50 years since the Doors released their first album in January... and the last two remaining members of the band are planning to celebrate the momentous milestone in style.
There will be a special ceremony in LA on 4 January 2017 called “The Day of the Doors”, it has been announced.
Drummer John Densmore and guitarist Robby Krieger will attend, as will family members of the band’s late singer Jim Morrison and their keyboardist Ray Manzarek.
The band decided to stage the event at the intersection of Pacific and Windward Avenues, close to the famous "Venice" sign, which is near where they first met and held their first jamming sessions.
The Doors have chosen to mark their 50th anniversary by the 4 January 1967 release date of their self-titled debut album, rather than when they actually first formed in Venice back in 1965.
Speaking about the planned event in a statement, John Densmore says: “Very apropos that the Doors are jumpstarting our 50th in Venice where we started. Our songs sprang up out of the Pacific like beautiful, edible silverfish ... and apparently the world took a big bite.”
