They may be pushing 50 by now, but there’s no budging Kim Gordon or Thurston Moore from their position as seminal overlords of the US garage set.
Though their repertoire is patchy at best (Dirty was a stroke of genius, whereby Washing Machine was just plain confusing), truly great things are still expected of New York’s finest. For the best part of two decades, Sonic Youth have thrilled shoegazer and rock-jockey alike with their finely-honed experimentalism and feedback-driven sound-scapes.
