EL-P and Killer Mike are back – and it looks like it'll be with a bang, rather than a whiska, writes Ed Murphy...
For the dynamic American rap duo, EL-P and Killer Mike, the past year will be remembered more for a cat sounds remix album, than any blistering beats. But with 2016 just around the corner, things look set revert back to the norm.
Hip-hop producer extraordinaire, El Producto, has shared a new taster from his upcoming record Run The Jewels 3. The Brooklyn native posted the clip via Instagram with the caption "RTJ3 is just getting started."
The taster features a familiar layered production, with a dense, haunting, distorted, whirling siren, accompanied by a thundering, thudding, EL-P drum sample – of a kind that never fails to induce an incessant bout of head-nodding in camp Hot Press.

Run The Jewels certainly left an odd mark on 2015, with the release of their kitty inspired remix LP, Meow The Jewels. To be honest, it was probably the most claw-some cat record of the year, just pipping Lil Bub's album, entitled, Science and Magic, at the scratching post.
However, not everyone was enthralled with the meow-sician's LP. Grantland writer, Rembert Browne, lamented that there were "too many humans and not enough cats" featured on the record.
Browne's overall assessment was unforgiving. "Meow the Jewels: More like Humans Are Incapable of Taking a Backseat to Kitties, and It’s Disgusting," he said.
Meow is right! There are no indications yet, as to whether any felines will feature on the upcoming RTJ3 album. Let's keep our paws crossed. That there won't be, that is...
