RTÉ to air Malawi documentary tonight
Into Africa With Mary Coughlan is on at 11.20pm.
Galway jazz singer Mary Coughlan recently embarked on a trip to the impoverished southeast African country of Malawi to record a charity CD with the street kids from Umoza, a Mzuzu school supported by Irish producer John Dunford, and her remarkable journey can be seen on your screens tonight.
The documentary, Into Africa With Mary Coughlan, airs at 11.20pm on RTÉ One and finds Coughlan performing with the deprived children, and joining a group of women to learn about their local enterprise and play live for them.
A wonderful insight into a beautiful country that has suffered from political turmoil and economic woes for generations, it will be must-see TV.
Earlier this year, our own Craig Fitzpatrick travelled to the same town of Mzuzu to see the intense hardship firsthand, as well as the great work currently being done in Umoza and particularly by Tipperary-born Brother Aidan Clohessy to provide a brighter future for the local population.

Mary Coughlan's charity CD will get an official release in the very near future – stay with hotpress.com for further details. Featuring throat singing and indigenous percussion, it is a cover of Christy Hennessy's 'Mixed Believe'.
