Rockin’ The Suburbs
‘Rockin’ The Suburbs’ is almost insanely catchy and hilariously funny
It seems that old Ben has lost his Five, but the name is not the only thing to have changed here. I can see the headlines now: “Ben Folds in guitar-driven song shock! Where is the piano? – Public cries”.
Yes, it’s true, Mr Folds has (for the most part) forsaken his beloved ebony and ivory in favour of the beast with six strings. However, Folds has retained the wickedly funny sense of humour and irony that made songs like ‘Army’ and ‘The Battle of Who Could Care Less’ so memorable. ‘Rockin’ The Suburbs’ is almost insanely catchy, hilariously funny and anyone who manages to namecheck Michael Jackson, Quiet Riot and Preparation H in the same song deserves kudos on a grand scale. Respect is due.
