Queens of the Stone Age and Foo Fighters episode of Hot Press Classics out now - feat. Dave Grohl
In the feelgood podcast of the summer, Paul Nolan breaks down a brace of Queens Of The Stone Age masterpieces, 2000’s Rated R and 02’s Songs For The Deaf, before turning his attention to Foo Fighters’ 1997 classic, The Colour And The Shape.
Hot Press Classics is back with a new special episode, focusing on Queens of the Stone Age's masterpieces, 2000’s Rated R and 02’s Songs For The Deaf, as well as the Foo Fighters' 1997 classic The Colour and the Shape.
In this new instalment, Paul Nolan discusses Queens of the Stone Age's (QOTSA) lineup circa 2002, which included Josh Homme, Mark Lannegan, Nick Oliveri and Dave Grohl, their incredible visual impact and the intensity of their sound.
Nolan also examines the anticipation surrounding their 2002 breakthrough international hit Songs for the Deaf, the record's loose but hard-hitting concept, and its cinematic vividness.
Elsewhere in the episode, Nolan takes a look at Dave Grohl's collaborations with QOTSA, the difficulties surround the recording of the Foo Fighters' album The Colour and the Shape, and Grohl's anthemic writing style.
The podcast also discusses Grohl's countless collaborative side projects, the death of legendary drummer Taylor Hawkins and the various tragedies surrounding QOTSA in later years.
Wrapping up the episode, Nolan brings back an interview with Dave Grohl from 2022, where they discuss the Foo Fighters' comedy horror film Studio 666.
This episode was produced by Paul Nolan and edited by Flo Laurent.
