Pulse 107FM closed down by ComReg
One of Dublin’s oldest and most influential pirate radio stations, Pulse 107FM, has conceded defeat to ComReg and announced that it’s closing down.
The decision was unwillingly made last week after the communications regulatory body confiscated one of their transmitters.
“Although Pulse 107 view the current activities of the body as being both heavy handed and unfair, we must recognise the laws of the land, hence, we have decided to cease transmissions,” says a spokesman. “Pulse was an evening only, strictly non-commercial station, yet some religious pirates are allowed to continue to cover the entire country.”
As well as helping to break a plethora of Irish dance acts, Pulse also provided 2FM with such fully-formed recruits as Conor G, John Power and Mark McCabe. Indeed, 2FM head honcho John Clarke admitted to Hot Press that they were one of the stations he listened to when checking for new DJ talent.
