Piprework's Dublin Festival France 100, which is a celebration of the last one hundred years of the French organ and choral tradition, is running from now until this Sunday.
Christ Church Cathedral, Dublin Unitarian Church, Whitefriar Street Church, St. Patrick’s Cathedral and St. Michael’s Church Dun Laoghaire will resound with glorious uplifting music performed by world class master musicians.
Taking its cue from the centenaries of Claude Debussy, Charles Gounod and Lili Boulanger, Pipeworks celebrates the last 100 years of the French organ and choral tradition.
Over the five day festival audiences will be treated to a rich and diverse programme of music featuring Irish based virtuoso organists David Adams, Fergal Caulfield, David Leigh, Tristan Russcher with France’s phenomenal Thomas Ospital making his first recital appearance in Ireland.
Also featured are RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra conducted by David Brophy, The Choir of St. Bartholomew’s Church accompanied by Andrew Johnstone, Martin Johnson (Violincello) and Adele Johnson (Viola) and Emily Kilkenny Roddy (Dancer) in a piece choreographed by Justine Doswell.
“I am delighted to announce the programme of the 2018 Pipeworks Festival. The French organ tradition of the last 100 years is a rich vein to mine, and we are pleased to feature some of Ireland’s leading musicians in inspirational surroundings to explore it," said Justin.
"In our much valued partnership with the recital series in St Michael’s Church, Dun Laoghaire, we are thrilled to welcome young French virtuoso Thomas Ospital, and we are proud to continue our relationship with the National Symphony Orchestra, who will perform the Irish premiere of Thierry Escaich’s virtuosic and turbulent First Organ Concerto, alongside Saint-Saens much loved “Organ” Symphony.
"I am confidant that hardened organ enthusiasts and lovers of classical music alike will find much to enjoy in this Francophile feast” said David Leigh, Festival Director.
