Phil Lynott: Songs for While I'm Away airs on RTÉ One
After being delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic, the documentary about legendary Irish rock icon Phil Lynott aired in Irish cinemas on June 11.
The documentary about Phil Lynott, the legendary Irish musician and founding member of rock band Thin Lizzy, aired on RTÉ One last night.
Directed by Emer Reynolds, Phil Lynott: Songs for While I'm Away arrived in Irish cinemas on June 11 of this year after being delayed due to COVID. It tells the story of the late rock icon through his own words.
In 'The Message' for the Hot Press Phil Lynott special last year, editor Niall Stokes wrote: "Emer Reynolds hadn't the remotest interest in painting a graphic, sensationalist picture of what went wrong in the life of Phil Lynott. She wanted to take a far more measured approach."
Reynolds has previously been recognised for her award-winning documentary The Farthest about the Voyager space craft flight.
Though Lynott died in 1986, his legacy still lives on in his music and in those that knew him, including Thin Lizzy guitarist Scott Gorham and drummer Brian Downey. Fans have also paid tribute to Lynott at the house of his mother, Philomena Lynott, before she passed away in 2019.
