Malcolm Mclaren: “Paris” (World Attractions)
Malcolm Mclaren: “Paris” (World Attractions)
Featuring the deep-throated voice of Catherine Deneuve, ‘Paris’ is a smooth, seductive odyssey through the City of Love, celebrated here in Deneuve’s exquisite French with the Oliver Twist English of Mclaren in counterpoint.
Particularly good is the 17 minute mix by Youth, metaphysically entitled ‘The Emotional Curvatone at a Given Moment in Space and Time’. After a long intro, suffused with expectation, in which Deneuve moans with breathy pleasure to a background of twittering songbirds, the tempo builds up to a sophisticated, hip-swaying digital beat which makes you want to buy a film camera, attach it to the bottom of a helicopter and fly over Paris at night making the most beautiful video you ever imagined.
