Madams Last Discovery - On Our Radar Q&A: "We’re having a lot more fun trying to make something different"
Belfast crew Madams Last Discovery chat about their ace new LP, The World’s End.
You came up in the music scene in Belfast - what's it like?
Flinn: Its night and day to what it was a few years ago. There’s a lot of post-punk coming up – bands like Chalk, Makeshift Art Bar and Stratford Rise. It’s definitely changed and it’s getting a lot stronger. No matter what genre you play, you end up getting in with all different types. It’s a small place, so you do meet everybody.
How has your writing process changed since you started?
Guigsy: In the beginning, everybody would write their own individual parts themselves. But recently, everybody’s been contributing and throwing in ideas.
Flinn: It’s collective, we couldn’t write separately. We all have ideas, but we have to write together.
Nathan: Previously, we were trying to write stuff that would please a crowd. Which we still want to do, but now we’re having a lot more fun trying to make something different.
What are your plans for after your EP?
Flinn: We’ve got a few live shows in the works. We’re hoping to get back down to Dublin, and over to England again. Then we’re just gonna keep recording and getting music out.
Nathan: The EP is a good example of our sound, because it has elements of everything that we do with our music. We’ll be looking to grow our audience by playing more shows, and then we’ll just keep working on new music. We don’t want to release the EP and be at a standstill. We’re in quite a good flow and we want to keep things coming out.
