Fiona Kennedy releases new single ‘Travel On’ ahead of upcoming album
She will also perform on October 16 at Dublin’s Tivoli Theatre.
Cork-based musician Fiona Kennedy has released a new single ‘Travel On’ ahead of her upcoming album, Natural Woman.
‘Travel On’ is a musical tribute to the late Vicky Phelan – an Irish women’s healthcare campaigner who exposed the CervicalCheck screening scandal in 2018.
The new record is set for a live launch event on October 2 at Cork's The Merchant. She will also perform on October 16 at Dublin’s Tivoli Theatre.
Natural Woman also functions as a multimedia stage show. The live performance combines original music, spoken word, storytelling and visual projections.
It is “inspired by remarkable women whose lives have influenced her and which has prompted her to reflect on her own journey as a woman, musician, mother and independent artist,” according to a statement.
Kennedy gained recognition when she won Screen Test in 1985, Ireland’s first-ever televised talent competition. She then appeared on her own one-off RTÉ television programme The Fiona Kennedy Show.
Later, she performed on The Late Late Show, was a finalist in Eurosong in 1994 and shared stages with the likes of Carole King, Kris Kristofferson and John Martyn.
Kennedy was also nominated for an IRMA Award in 1994 for her debut album, Crazy Love.
After that, she went on to share four more records and several singles.
Her song, ‘All Together Now’, released in 2022, peaked at No. 4 on the Irish and UK Airplay Chart. Her latest full-length album Find Me dropped in 2023.
Tickets for her Tivoli Theatre date are available here.
Tickets for the Natural Woman launch event will be available at the door.
