The Mary Wallopers share stop-motion video for new single 'KitKat Club'

The Mary Wallopers have shared a stop-motion video for their new single 'KitKat Club'.

The trad-folk band from Dundalk have hit out at AI, highlighting the need to protect artists and their work: "All stop motion entirely hand-made by Cath Shayler. No AI here!", going on to say "Fuck AI xoxo" on their Instagram.

Bright, distorted visuals with their signature pig swirl around the screen, keeping time with the beat to capture the thrill of a night out. 

It joins the singles 'Crowns Of England' and 'Landlord's Demise', ahead of their self-released album Paddywhackery, out on September 18.

"People are terrified of being laughed at," Andrew and Charles Hendy said.

"If people are going to call us paddywhackery anyway, we might as well just call the album Paddywhackery. So its more of a “fuck you” than anything else. We want to spread like a virus and destroy anyone who thinks they are above The Mary Wallopers."

The group consistently use powerful lyrics to bring attention to major issues in Irish society such as emigration and housing.

Their song 'Landlord's Demise' was shared to Instagram with the caption, "This is a song for everyone struggling to pay big rents to greedy little landlords."

'Crowns Of England', meanwhile, tackles the heartfelt emotion of being away from home, "For all the crowns in England/I couldn't quench my thirst/I wandered back to Dundalk town/The place that quenched it first."

The band began as a three-piece ballad group with brothers Charles and Andrew Hendy alongside Seán McKenna, who has since left the band. They expanded to a six-piece in 2022, now including Roisin Barrett on bass, Ken Mooney on drums, Finian O'Connor on tin whistle/pipes and Catriona Gribben on accordion.

The band recently performed at All Together Now and are set to take the stage in Co. Laois at Electric Picnic in the coming weeks.

In support of the new album the band will perform at Dublin's 3Arena on December 10 and tickets can be purchased here.
