John Francis Flynn makes musical cameo in new season of Guy Ritchie's Netflix hit series The Gentlemen

The music of John Francis Flynn found its way into sitting rooms around the world this week – as the Dublin folk singer and multi-instrumentalist made a musical cameo in the new season of the popular Netflix series The Gentlemen, created by Guy Ritchie.

His rendition of 'My Son Tim' features prominently in the first episode of the new season, with Flynn appearing onscreen, alongside fellow Irish musicians Jimmy Clarke and Michael McCarthy, as well as French musician Romain Bly.

'My Son Tim' featured on John's 2021 debut album, I Would Not Live Always, released via River Lea, a division of London-based independent label Rough Trade Records. The track has clocked up over 1.2 million Spotify streams.

The first season of The Gentlemen quickly became a global success upon its release in March 2024 – reaching the global Top 10 in over 90 countries and securing the No.1 spot in 75. Between 2024 and 2025, it garnered 100 million views globally.

Season two of The Gentlemen launched last Thursday, September 3 – and, according to Flixpatrol, is currently the No.1 series on Netflix.

The new season features returning cast members Theo James, Kaya Scodelario, Daniel Ings, Ray Winstone, Joely Richardson, Vinnie Jones, Jasmine Blackborow, Michael Vu, Harry Goodwins, Ruby Sear, Pearce Quigley, and Giancarlo Esposito – as well as new faces like Hugh Bonneville, Maya Jama and Benjamin Clementine.

John Francis Flynn released his latest solo album, Look Over the Wall, See the Sky, in 2023. More recently, he has toured the UK, North America, Australia and New Zealand as a special guest vocalist with The Pogues.

Last month, he released the collaborative album, The 123, via Claddagh Records, as one-half of the guitar duo Paahto & The Bull, alongside Paahto Cummins. The pair are set to tour Ireland and the UK over the weeks and months ahead, with further details available here.
