The Mary Wallopers, Dove Ellis and more Irish acts score strong month on Official Folk Albums Chart

It's been yet another strong month for Irish folk artists on both sides of the Irish Sea, the latest Official Folk Album Chart has revealed – with both The Mary Wallopers and Dove Ellis featuring in the Top 10.

The chart features the biggest folk albums of the month (defined in partnership with the English Folk Expo) by British and Irish artists, based on sales in the UK of downloads, CDs, vinyl and other formats, plus streams.

The Mary Wallopers have soared straight to No.3 with their new album, Paddywhackery, while Dove Ellis celebrates yet another month in the Top 10 with Blizzard at No.7.

Paddywhackery, The Wallopers' third album, peaked at No.50 on the UK's Official Albums Chart following its release last month – and reached No.7 on the UK's Vinyl Albums Chart. The project also peaked at No.5 on the Scottish Albums Chart, as well as No.4 back home in Ireland.

Elsewhere on the Official Folk Album Chart chart, Madra Salach's It's A Hell Of An Age is at No.11, followed by Joshua Burnside's It's Not Going To Be Okay at No.12.

Andy Irvine, meanwhile, has debuted at No.19 with his latest release, Devoted, an album of Woody Guthrie songs.

Other new entries include Above All Love – a collection of previously unheard songs by Belfast artist Bap Kennedy – at No.26, and The 123 – John Francis Flynn and Paahto Cummins' debut album as Paahto & The Bull – at No.34.

Ye Vagabonds are at No.23 with All Tied Together, while Damien Dempsey's Holywell is at No.33.

The Official Folk Albums Chart was first launched in September 2020, in recognition of the growing popularity of folk music.
