Sharon Shannon announces new album Home, releases single 'The Silver Slipper Set'

Home, Sharon Shannon's first album since 2020, will be released on Friday, November 13. The first single, 'The Silver Slipper Set', just dropped.

It is a weave of two melodies: Shannon's own creation, 'The Magic Carpet', a slow reel; plus the name-giving 'The Silver Slipper' tune, a traditional hop jig from Matt Molloy's album, Heathery Breeze.

The mixture of original and traditional melodies in 'The Silver Slipper Set' is said to set the scene for the rest of the album. Other genres, from reggae to French-Canadian music, have influenced Shannon's sound in past years. This newest album, however, has been called a return to trad music.

The musician from County Clare began performing at age 8. Her self-titled debut album was the best-selling album of trad music ever released in Ireland.

She is playing in Dublin at Fitzpatrick Castle Hotel on October 3. Gigs in Kildare, Kilkenny, and Galway will follow in spring.
