Legendary Crooner Vic Damone Has Passed Away

The American singer, who Frank Sinatra once famously declared had "the best pipes in the business", has died at the age of 89.

He will be best remembered for the huge hit singles 'You’re Breaking My Heart', 'On the Street Where You Live' and 'An Affair to Remember' from the Gary Grant movie.
He also starred in several films, appearing alongside Mickey Rooney in 'The Strip' and alongside José Ferrer in 'Deep in My Heart'.
He famously turned down a role in 'The Godfather'. Apparently it was an offer he could refuse. He feared appearing in the movie would upset his friend Sinatra who was heavily linked to the Italian mob, according to the film's director Francis Ford Coppola. The role ultimately went to Al Martino.

In 1971, Vic started touring Las Vegas casinos as a performer. He had to declare bankruptcy in the early 1970s, but earned enough as a casino performer to clear up his financial difficulties.
He was still popular in the 1990s: Vic appeared in a Diet Pepsi commercial first aired during Super Bowl XXV in 1991.
Vic, who was a close personal friend of Donald Trump, released his last album in 2002 and last performed live in 2011.
