KNEECAP debut at No.1 on Irish Albums Chart with FENIAN: "We're buzzing"
This week's Top 5 also includes Noah Kahan, Olivia Dean, and two albums from Michael Jackson.
Following the release of their acclaimed second album FENIAN last week, KNEECAP have debuted at No.1 on the Official Irish Albums Chart this afternoon.
In a message shared with fans in response to the news, the Irish trio have said they're "buzzing."
"A big part of KNEECAP has always been bringing the Irish language into the contemporary space, so young people see the language is of value and on par with any other language," their statement reads. "And with this also comes showing solidarity with those who need it most around the world and at home.
"This past year though, as the British state witch-hunt came for us, we got solidarity from across this island – Electric Picnic being one of our highlights this year with 50,000 of us in a field.
"GRMA to everyone who got the album and we'll see you this Summer to celebrate FENIAN. Free Palestine. Free the 6 counties. Free Nicky Kelly. Na Fenians Abú..."
FENIAN is followed in the Top 5 by Michael Jackson's The Essential (No.2), Noah Kahan's The Great Divide (No.3), Olivia Dean's The Art Of Loving (No.4) and Michael Jackson's Thriller (No.5).
KNEECAP are also No.1 on this week's Independent Chart.
According to midweek insights from the UK, KNEECAP could also top the chart on the other side of the Irish Sea this evening – just a few months after being branded "completely intolerable" by UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
