Chalk land at no.1 on UK dance album chart with Crystalpunk
Chalk will play Dublin's Button Factory on May 15
Belfast post-punk/electronic duo Chalk have landed at No. 1 on the UK dance album chart with their debut album, Crystalpunk.
Released on March 13, the album is rooted in the band’s experience of growing up in the North of Ireland and encapsulates “the beauty, confusion, complexity, and intensity of the duo’s youth.”
The record's lead single, 'I.D.C.', is described by Ross Cullen as capturing “a fictional night out—self-destruction disguised as celebration, knives twisting beneath the strobe. It’s the danciest track on the album.”
Crystalpunk received an 8/10 rating on Hot Press and was hailed as an "uncompromising debut from Belfast electro-noiseniks" by John Walshe.
Later this year, Chalk will play a number of European and UK dates, including a stop at Dublin's Button Factory on May 15 and Belfast's Limelight on May 16.
The duo have experienced a meteoric rise in the past year, with a sold-out UK and European headline tour last spring, followed by debut festival appearances at Glastonbury and Bilbao BBK and a debut US headline tour.
Tickets for the Dublin and Belfast dates can be purchased here.
