Jamie Duffy tops Independent Chart and soars straight to No.7 on Irish Albums Chart with debut LP
Taylor Swift continues her reign at No.1 with The Life of a Showgirl – with Jamie Duffy scoring the only new entry in this week's Top 30.
Following the release of his acclaimed self-titled debut album last Friday, Monaghan composer Jamie Duffy has soared straight to No.1 on the Independent Chart this week – as well as debuting at No.7 on the Irish Albums Chart.
His is the only independent record in the Irish Albums Chart Top 10, and is the first ever Top 10 debut album by an Irish solo instrumental artist under the age of 25.
"I am so, so thrilled, I didn’t think this record would come anywhere near it but the support and love for the album has been so appreciated," Jamie comments. "Playing these pieces live and chatting to so many of you across social media this weekend has been lovely, and I hope this is just the first chapter to a really long novel in this big beautiful musical world."
The 24-year-old had previously clocked up over 7.3 billion views on TikTok with his debut single 'Solas' – the most-streamed debut by an Irish artist since Hozier's 'Take Me To Church'. Last year, he released his debut EP, On A Wing, and supported Andrea Bocelli and Hans Zimmer at BST Hyde Park.
There are no other new entries in the Irish Albums Chart Top 30 this week – with Taylor Swift scoring another week at No.1 with The Life of a Showgirl. The Top 10 also includes Irish acts Kingfishr, with Halcyon (No.3), and Amble, with Reverie (No.5).
Over on the Independent Album Chart, meanwhile, MayKay has debuted at No.7 with her self-titled debut album.
