Blue Meanies: “Kitchen” (Utopia! Records)
Bass intro followed by acoustic guitar and a steady chugging backbeat from these lads from Limerick as they trace the route of domestic co-habitation from those passionate let’s-do-it-anywhere-frenzied days through to the point at which the sleepless nights are due to endless arguments rather than intimate intercourse. It’s all recounted in epigrammatic form and without an awful lot of agonising to a melody which, far-fetched as it might seem, vaguely reminds me of a bootlegged live version of Bob Dylan’s ‘It Takes A Lot To Laugh, It Takes a Train To Cry’.
