Shot in Ireland and starring Cillian Murphy (Batman Begins, Breakfast On Pluto) and Liam Cunningham (Screwback, Breakfast On Pluto, the film depicts the relationship of two brothers who fought on the same side for independence, but on opposite sides in the civil war that ensued.
The film has been nominated for the Palme d'Or award, acknowledged as the film industry's most distinguished award. Also included in the 19 that are up for the title are Richard Linklater's Fast Food Nation, Richard Kelly's Southland Tales, Babel by Mexican director Alejandro Gonzalez, and Andrea Arnold's Red Road.
Former winners are Martin Scorsese's Taxi Driver, Quentin Tarintino's Pulp Fiction and Francis Ford Coppola's Apocalypse Now.
The film receives its world premiere at Cannes before opening across Britain and Ireland on June 23.
