Kathleen Edwards to play Whelan's
Kathleen Edwards will make her long awaited return in a gig at Whelan's on June 27
Canadian musician Kathleen Edwards is making a comeback. After a three year gap since her last record, Edwards is touring again on the back of her new album, Asking For Flowers.
The Canadian singer will play Whelan's on June 27 and Aunty Annies in Belfast on June 26.
And what has Edwards been doing with all this free time? Quite a lot it seems, “First I bought a Heintzman piano and committed the fall of 2006 to learning how to play. I worked at a winery in the spring, practiced my violin more than I have in years, gardened relentlessly, started jogging, played a few random shows, and sung on some friends' records”. Busy lady.
Her new record features a who’s who of North American folk and session players who all wanted to be involved in the creative process involved in making this her third album. The production included a recording session in Edward’s living room, gathered around a furnace and trying to record around its rumbling, and backing vocals from Edwards’ mother.
Tickets for Kathleen Edwards at Whelan’s are €17.50 and are available from Road Records, City Discs and other usual outlets.
