Jimmy MacCarthy to play additional Dublin date after selling out run of Cork Opera House and National Concert Hall shows
The legendary songwriter is set to re-release his debut album, The Song of the Singing Horseman – featuring classic compositions like 'Ride On', 'No Frontiers', 'Missing You', 'The Bright Blue Rose' and 'Mystic Lipstick' – later this year
After selling out two upcoming Cork Opera House dates (October 1 & 20), and a show at the National Concert Hall in Dublin (October 14), revered Irish songwriter Jimmy MacCarthy is set to play an additional National Concert Hall date, Hot Press has learned, on October 22.
This month, the Cork artist will return to the stage for the first time in a decade – with a sold-out, four-night residency at The White Horse in Ballincollig (May 25, June 1, June 8 & June 15), ahead of the major Cork and Dublin gigs.
The Cork Opera House and National Concert Hall shows in October will coincide with the eagerly awaited re-release of MacCarthy's debut album, The Song of the Singing Horseman. The album, originally released via Mulligan Records in 1991, features several of his most iconic compositions, including 'Ride On', 'No Frontiers', 'Missing You', 'The Bright Blue Rose' and 'Mystic Lipstick' – all of which were famously recorded by the likes of Christy Moore and Mary Black.
The re-release will feature re-recorded vocals from MacCarthy on the iconic tracks 'No Frontiers' and 'The Bright Blue Rose'.
Additionally, the singer-songwriter has revealed plans to re-release his second album, The Dreamer – originally put out by Sony in 1994 – next year.
The run of gigs at the Cork Opera House and National Concert Hall will find MacCarthy revisiting songs from his debut album, alongside a selection of special guests who contributed to the original record – including Nollaig Casey, Steve Cooney, James Blennerhassett and Paul McAteer.
His intimate residency at The White Horse, meanwhile, will see MacCarthy joined by his former Southpaw bandmate Declan Sinnott, alongside the Electric Horsemen.
